Curly Hair Specialists

At our salon, we don't just cut hair; we sculpt it. A true curly cut is an intricate architectural process, requiring a master’s touch to ensure every layer harmonises with your natural pattern.

Under the expert guidance of Dianne, who brings over 50 years of industry-leading experience, we have refined a proprietary technique that transforms the way your curls sit, move, and feel. Our signature cutting process alone takes 20 to 35 minutes of focused precision, ensuring a bespoke shape that is perfectly tailored to your face shape and lifestyle.

The Expert Consultation Every appointment begins with a deep-dive analysis. We examine your curl diameter, elasticity, and growth patterns. Unlike standard salons that "fight" the hair, we work with your curls. Whether you are a 2A wave or a 4C coil, we adapt our methods to ensure your hair never sits limp or frizzy, but instead boasts incredible bounce and definition.

Restoration & Sculpting Process

Restoration & Balance Curly hair is a delicate science of moisture and protein. We begin by treating your hair with high-performance nutrients to repair damage and restore "juicy," hydrated curls. By finding that perfect equilibrium, we eliminate frizz at the source and prep your canvas for the perfect shape.

Bespoke Sculpting & Layering This is where the magic happens. We move beyond "basic" trims to create an elegant, individualised shape. By considering the specific size and weight of your curls, we layer the hair to provide volume where you want it and control where you need it.

What Is a "Curly" Cut?

I, Dianne (the Owner of Oh So Blonde Hair Studio), have curly hair myself. I've been in the industry since I was 16 and with over 40 years working with curly hair, I know exactly what it needs! There's a reason why I'm called a curl specialist, and you'll see why! I've since passed on my vast knowledge of curly hair to Caity and Lilabelle. Both proving to be exceptional curly cutters, with lots of experience in this field.

We take your curls into consideration during our consultation. Feeling and examining your curl patterns. Using this information we adapt our methods and choose cutting techniques that will suit and enhance your gorgeous curls. Rather than cutting against the curl, and making your hair sit limp or fuzzy when styled, we cut with the curl. This makes our curly clients' lives so much easier! We don’t discriminate, and accept all curly girls, from 2A to 4C, and anywhere in between!

What to Expect During Your Cut

After our consultation, we'll wash and treat your hair to put back all of the needed nutrients and repair all the damage we can. This ensures that your curls will be juicy and bouncy again! Curly hair needs a balance of moisture and protein. Too much of one, and not enough of the other, will mean your curls will hang from your head or frizz up! So our team will help get your hair back into balance!

Next comes the shaping. We begin the layering process. Taking into consideration your curl type, size and diameter, we'll start layering your hair to give you the most elegant shape for you individually. This is what makes your cut different from a regular, basic haircut.

A Chat About Aftercare

We'll then have an in-depth conversation about your curls and how to look after them! We'll suggest different styling methods that are easy and can suit any client’s lifestyle.

And even better, we have a chat about different products that really work! Yes, there are affordable products on the market that are healthy for your hair, bring your curls to life and take away all of the frizz. Giving you a style that will last for days! This takes away half of the battle curly girls have! You'l be able to stop the ongoing search for products to style your hair.

The Best Product for Your Hair

Now comes the fun part! After our professionals have recommended the products that will really work for your specific hair, you will get to trial them for yourself! We'll rake the best, most hydrating products through your hair and ensure that they're evenly distributed for a smooth result. Then we'll show you how to style your hair according to what we've discussed prior. We'll also explain easy mistakes that people make, and suggest tips and tricks to help you style your hair as flawlessly as we can! Some clients love us to diffuse their hair at the end, so they can see their beautiful revived, bouncy curls; and some prefer to leave and let them air dry.

We can’t wait to see you in salon, and get to know you and your gorgeous hair! Please enjoy looking through the below pictures of some our curly cuts. And give us a call or book online, when you're ready!

What Our Clients Say

Why Is Your Hair Curly?

Have you ever wondered why some people have pencil-straight locks and others have tightly spun coils?

Here’s why!

According to the International Journal of Dermatology, curly hair comes about thanks to cell behaviour changes as the body produces hair fibres.

With straight hair, the follicle’s cells appear round and coordinated, creating even growth. However, with curly hair, the cells divide asymmetrically, creating bends in the hair follicle. This process creates elliptically-shaped hair fibres, leading to a unique curl pattern.

But why are some people born with coordinated hair follicles while others are asymmetrical?

Well, scientists aren’t exactly sure—but it all comes down to genetics. The main gene involved in hair shape produces a protein known as TCHH or trichohyalin. This protein strengthens hair as it grows.

TCHH also contains unique variants called small nuclear polymorphisms. Scientists associate these variants with different shapes and types of hair found around the world.

At Oh So Blonde Hair Studio, we know the science behind curly hair—that’s why we treat it right.

Different Types of Curls

As a curly girl or guy, you know there isn’t just one kind of curl. Among the wavy, curly, and coily types, there are distinct subcategories.

Let’s dive into the different curl types we care for at Oh So Blonde Hair Studio.

  • Coily (4A to 4C)

Coily curls are the tightest kind. Depending on the tightness and shape of your coils, they’ll fall into one of the following categories:

4A, for small, tight coils with consistent texture from the root

4B, for super tight coils forming a zig-zag or ‘Z’ shape

4C, the tightest coils with a dense texture and zig-zag pattern

  • Curly (3A to 3C)

Curly hair looks like spirals or ringlets. It normally grows consistently, but there can be some variations in curl patterns.

3A curls are wide, spiral-shaped and bouncy

3B curls are tighter, like springy spirals, with loads of volume

3C curls are dense, tight and corkscrew-like

  • Wavy (2A to 2C)

Wavy hair is looser than curly or coily hair. It generally has an ‘S’ shape and comes in three distinct patterns. Sometimes, a few tighter curls might mix in with your waves.

2A, for very loose waves with a hint of texture

2B, for S-shaped waves beginning mid-way through the hair

2C, for S-shaped waves starting closer to the root and extending to the ends

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Should curly hair be cut wet or dry?

Both methods can work, but many curl-focused stylists prefer cutting curls dry or in their natural state. Cutting dry allows the stylist to see the true curl pattern, shrinkage level and density before shaping.

Wet cuts can disguise how curls will spring once dry, which may lead to uneven lengths. However, some stylists combine techniques by shaping dry and refining wet.

The right approach depends on curl type, density and the desired result. The key factor is understanding how curls respond once fully dry and styled.

  • Why does my curly haircut look shorter than expected?

Shrinkage is one of the biggest factors in curly haircuts. Depending on curl tightness, hair can appear several centimetres shorter once dry. Humidity, product choice and styling technique can also influence how much a curl springs upward.

A consultation should include discussion about shrinkage expectations and final length goals. Bringing reference photos can help clarify preferences. Understanding that curls contract once cut helps prevent surprises.

Leaving extra length during the initial cut allows room for adjustment after the hair settles into its natural pattern.

  • Can a curly haircut reduce frizz without changing products?

A well-executed curly haircut can significantly improve how curls sit, which may reduce visible frizz. Removing excess bulk allows curls to form more consistently, while proper layering supports natural clumping.

When weight is distributed evenly, curls interlock more predictably and resist fluffing out. However, haircutting alone does not eliminate frizz entirely. Environmental factors, moisture balance and styling routine also contribute.

A curl-specific shape creates a stronger foundation, making styling easier and improving overall definition even before products are applied.
