What Are Perms & Bodywaves?
I, Dianne, am a perm specialist. I've been perming for over 40 years, and know exactly how to achieve perfect curls on any hair. I only use the best quality perm solution, and do everything precisely and with purpose. This means that all of my perm clients walk out loving their stunning hair. Perming has evolved so much over my years in the industry and the results speak for themselves. Our clients are constantly getting compliments on their “naturally curly hair” because my perming results are so perfect. I can do all styles of perms, all perms, anything from tiny spirals to beautiful beachy waves.
Perming is a permanent chemical process that changes the texture of your hair. It works by, breaking down the bonds in your hair strand, and resealing them in a new form. While this is so, your perm will start to relax over time. Depending on the length of your hair and the desired result, our perms can last anywhere from 3 months, to a year!
Because I use the best quality solution out there, and time everything exactly, you can expect there to be no damage to your hair. Meaning your new body and curls will be hydrated, bouncy and so shiny!
What to Expect
We'll have a detailed consultation with you first thing, make sure to bring some photos of the kind of curls you're wanting, as this helps me to know exactly what you're after. Once we've chatted thoroughly about what we're going to do, I'll take you over to the basin for two shampoos. This will ensure that your hair is properly cleansed and prepared for our solution.
Now that your hair is clean and damp, I'll cut your hair into shape. Curly hair needs to be shaped properly in order for it to sit and style properly, so I'll give you a beautiful curly cut, as I'm also a curly cutting expert. Now, I'll start applying the solution and putting in your rollers. I may use different sizes, depending on the look we're after. My sectioning and placement is meticulous and individualised for the result you're after. Once I'm finished, we'll leave your hair to process.

After we rinse your hair thoroughly, we'll press each roller with a towel, to remove any dampness we can. And apply the final solution.
Once we have washed everything out of your hair and bring you back to your chair, we might go back in and make any adjustments to your haircut. Then we'll show you the best products for your hair, and teach you how to use them! And lastly we'll diffuse your hair, so you're ready to go out and rock your new curls!
What Our Clients Say
How Long Does A Perm Last?
A good rule of thumb is that perms start to lose their effect after 3 to 6 months; however, the longevity of a perm can depend on several factors. For example, if your hair is thick, it will hold a curl for longer than if it's thin or fine. Likewise, if you wash and style your hair every day, more stress will be placed on the curls and therefore their lifespan will be shorter.
How Much Does A Perm Cost?
The cost of a perm usually depends on your hair length, so the longer your hair the more expensive it will be. Here at
Oh So Blonde Hair Studio, a short-haired perm costs $250+, a medium-haired perm $300+, and a long-haired perm $350+. For more information on perms get in contact with us at (07) 5444 4377 or book your appointment online today.
How Long Does A Perm Take
The perm procedure itself typically takes around 45 minutes; however, this can vary depending on your hair type and thickness. For example, if your hair is coarse and long, the process of getting a perm will be longer, often taking around 2 hours to get the perfect look.
You can also get different types of curls to make your natural curl pattern wavier than it naturally would be, so this will also affect how long the process takes when getting your new do.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a modern perm and the tight perms from the 80s?
Modern perms focus on texture, softness and movement rather than tight, uniform curls.
Stylists now customise rod size, placement patterns and processing time to control the final shape. Instead of creating one consistent curl across the entire head, they can design looser waves, root lift or beachy bends.
Contemporary formulas also prioritise conditioning and flexibility. The result looks more natural and wearable, with curls that feel touchable rather than rigid. Technique and product evolution have shifted perms from dramatic transformation to controlled, tailored texture enhancement.
How does previous colour affect perm results?
Previous chemical services can influence how hair responds to perm solutions. Lightened or heavily coloured hair may process more quickly due to increased porosity.
A stylist should assess elasticity and strength before proceeding. In certain cases, a gentler formula or reduced processing time may be necessary to protect the cuticle. Strand testing helps predict how curls will form and how resilient the hair remains afterward.
Healthy preparation and honest consultation play an important role in achieving balanced, consistent results without over-processing.
Will a perm make hair feel dry or damaged?
When performed correctly and supported with proper aftercare, a modern perm should not leave hair feeling brittle. However, the process does alter the internal structure of the hair, which can increase moisture needs.
Hydrating treatments, protein balance and gentle styling products help maintain softness and shine. Clients should expect to adjust their home care routine slightly to support the new texture.
Regular conditioning and reduced heat styling preserve elasticity and keep curls looking defined rather than frizzy.
